firmly believe we are triune, just like God. God is Father, Son, and Spirit. We are Spirit, Soul, and Body. We often devote our lives to our soul and body, forgetting the spirit. But, those of us who are Gay or Lesbian Christians, we sometimes forget the body, too. All three must be in balance. So, make sure your body is as healthy as your spirit and your soul.
eople write me now and then and complain about "certain pictures" on the website, pictures of people, and pictures of ME "supposedly" unclothed. They think it is not Christian, or sinful, and I have a problem. I remind them WHY these pictures appear. The photographs used here relate to the topic discussed, to show the muscle groups involved, or to show athletic development. People see what they see; I sometimes believe their objections actually reveal their true hearts. So, I remind you, too, to have a proper and healthy perspective on art and photography, for rarely are they the problem; instead, the problem lies in the heart of the viewer.
Don't believe your clothes sizes, there's nothing more sobering than having your Trainer measure your whole body. Your clothing waist and chest sizes are not your real sizes; your waist is actually bigger, and your chest is smaller. My trainer tested my body fat, and although it was in the normal range for my height and body type, it was concentrated in my stomach region, years of sitting at work and home.
The first thing this Gay Christian learned was just how pathetic I really was. I had to use most of the machines without any weights at all, the weight of the empty bar alone was almost too much for me to lift, push or pull. I learned I can sweat, but barely; I have to drink lots of water while exercising.
But, the biggest surprise was how quickly my body began to respond. Twice a week I would meet with my trainer for one hour. On other days, the goal was to come in and do thirty minutes of cardio exercise to burn calories.
In less than three months, I’d lost two inches on my waist, and gained strength and muscle on all my body’s muscle groups. I noticed major and minor changes. The twenty-four can pack of diet soda that was almost too heavy for me to carry from the store to my car, I now carried with one arm, and threw into the car trunk like it was nothing. I carried less work stress in my body, fewer painkillers, fewer illnesses, less stiff when I wake up in the morning, and sometimes have more energy that my son. As the months passed, I increased in muscle and strength, able to actually see changes in the mirror. Today, I look forward to the Gym. My workouts include weight lifting, and cardio exercises to burn calories. I work out three days of the week, depending on other life responsibilities. I have my own locker, and follow a daily schedule and pattern. My trainer has graduated me to a life on my own now, to use and plan my own exercise and strength routines.
I also lost the original reason why I joined the Gym in the first place... my partner. With the continual development of my inner self, it probably was only a matter of time before this Gay Christian started thinking about my body, and wanting it to reflect more fully how I felt and thought inside. I thank my partner for starting the process a bit sooner. But, I no longer exercise for him, but for ME. I like the positive things I am seeing in my body, and I like the way I feel, too.
Even though I am in my 40s, I've discovered your body is not beyond change, can improve, and can be muscular. There are some truths you cannot ignore, and one of them is age. Because of the quick response my body has shown, I’ve learned if I had started this when I was in my 20s or 30s, I would have easily put on strength and muscle, and would still be carrying much of it. But, because of my current age, I will have to work harder to develop and keep any improvement and muscles. I don't cry over what might have been. Instead it makes me all the more determined to continue what I've begun, and see what I can do. As time passes, I'll probably not be as zealous about it as I now am, but for now, you can hardly keep a shirt on me, or if I am wearing one, it's sleeveless, and I generally wear shorts and sandals.
In 2003, I was in a terrible accident, broke out teeth, smashed cheekbone, cut my eye, damaged my shoulders, knees, and wrists. I was off work for a long time. I later lost the partial use of my right thumb. A mild form of inherited arthritis inflamed into a major attack that remains today, sometimes strong, sometimes moderate; I live with daily pain, and limitations in movement. My doctor bluntly told me if I had not started working out, I would have injured myself more severely, my strength allowed me to resist the impact of the accident.
Today, I am no longer able to use the gym as much as I once did. My wrists and damaged thumb limit me to using lighter weights, which I then supplement by performing longer repetitions, etc. My knees limit my ability to kneel, or strain them on leg presses or treadmills, so I do lighter weights, and watch how I carry myself while walking. But, I have not abandoned my athletic journey, and am thankful I discovered it when I did. We were designed to exercise not just our spirits and minds, but our bodies, too. When we exercise all three, we are better equipped to handle life's injuries and surprises, whether they be physical, spiritual, or emotional. Better to be in shape, than not.

The rest of this article is devoted to things I've learned about exercise and body care. Some of it may appear to lean more towards men than women, probably because I am a man, but most of it is applicable to women and men. There are differences physically between men and women. I shall share some of the things I've learned about diet, exercise, etc. I also provide you with a basic exercise plan, and how to move to advanced levels.
