So, as you can see, the following is a condensed version of how I don't debate but rather "wash feet." (All Scriptures quoted herein are KJV modified gender neutral). "Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man (woman) trust himself (herself) that he (she) is Christ's let him (her) of himself (herself) think this again, even so are we Christ's." II Corinthians 10:7. "...for the Lord seeth not as man (woman) seeth; for man (woman) looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." I Samuel 16:7b. "For if ye live after the flesh (Law), ye shall die; but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God (Love), they are the sons (daughters) of God. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God." Romans 8:13,14,16.
We get our identity in Christ, not in sexual orientation; our sexual orientation is but one of the many facets which make us human. It does not matter what your sexual orientation, whether your sexual orientation is biologically or socially determined and/or developed, it is how you reverence, use and express it that matters. In Christ there is neither male or female, slave or free, Jew or non-Jew... Homosexual or Heterosexual. God looks at the heart, determines if God there resides, and therein lives an attitude and motivation of Love. In Paul's discussion of food sacrificed to idols (I Cor. 8) he states: "...Knowledge puffeth up, but charity (Love) edifieth." verse 1. Further, in I Cor. he also states: "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any." 6:12. "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." 10:23. Only those things done in Love edify. The Law is written on the heart and there the Holy Spirit teaches, guides and empowers us to walk in Love, fulfilling the Law. Though all things are lawful not all things edify or bring growth. By choosing Love we choose those things that are for the best, which uplift the soul and the human condition, which lead to edification and growth. Even though everything is lawful, all things being lawful, we choose not and reject those things that are not Love.
A Homosexual Christian is bound by the same guidelines as a Heterosexual Christian, i.e. live a life sober, respectful of persons and property, temperate, non-judgmental, honorable, self-sacrificing, gentle, faithful, and all other expressions of Christ's Law of Love. A Homosexual's expression of his/her sexuality is the same as a Heterosexual, i.e. responsible to honor Christ, self, life partner and society in accordance with the Law of Love. There are many things in this world that are obviously black and white, Love or not Love, but most of life is neutral, gray. It is how you walk in much of life which determines whether or not it is a walk of Love or otherwise. A famous evangelist was once asked if a Christian could dance. He replied he didn't have time to ponder the question; he was too busy trying to get people born again and Spirit-filled. If dancing was wrong he trusted in God's own timing to convict the person of the error. If, with time, the person showed the fruits of salvation and sanctification, yet continued to dance, who then was he to "take away his/her liberty in Christ;" instead he would be forced to rethink his theology and understanding of the Gospel, God... and dancing. Homosexuality, being Gay or Lesbian, is no more wrong than being Heterosexual, being Straight; it is the attitude and expression of the heart of a Homosexual or Heterosexual wherein lies the potential for error and less than God's best. Any expression of sexuality that demeans, exploits, uses or abuses self, people or society is not for the best, and is so criticized in Scripture. Any expression of sexuality which uplifts, supports the individual, other people and society, which is expressed in a heart attitude of the Spirit's Love is lawful and Scripturally supported. All things are lawful but not all things edify and are Love. Any aspects of a society, a culture, a time past or age to come, within an individual's life or heart, etc. which conforms with the Law of Christ, His Law of Love is permissible. You may spend a lifetime debating religion, discussing and/or dissecting Scriptures. You cannot debate Love or Jesus Christ, nor judge those whom God embraces as children purchase by Christ's Blood. Remember again the story of the disciples of Jesus and the new Gentile believers. The disciples had a choice. They could either believe Jesus and the Holy Spirit were doing a new work and they needed to realize their interpretation of Scripture and theological things might be clouded or incomplete, and, therefore, accept these people; or, to harden their hearts. It took them awhile, but thankfully they finally fully accepted their Gentile brothers and sisters. Those disciples accepted their Gentile brothers and sisters not on the basis of any debate. No, they accepted them because of the proof of Jesus Christ living in the hearts of those Gentiles. You can debate words, but you cannot debate living witnesses. Acts 10:1-48. Within the heart of every believer lives God your Parent, Christ your Savior, Sibling, Mentor, Coach, and Best Friend, and the Holy Spirit your Guide, Power, Knowledge, Wisdom, Love, and Peace. The Holy Spirit plants within the believer's heart Christ's Law of Love. The believer is to use Christ's Love as a measuring tool, a "yardstick" to discern and determine the rightness or wrongness of the things in life. Whatever is before you, be it a belief, rule, teaching, person, idea, choice, attitude, emotion, belief, situation, doctrine, dogma, or anything else, and hold it up and compare it with Christ's Love. According to the New Testament Christ's Love will always "lead to your edification, growth, and profit." Love will be healthy, responsible, and positive. Love will never condone the abuse of yourself or other people, will not compromise yourself to be someone you are not, or do something you should not do, nor accept a life less full and abundant as you can possibly work at creating for yourself. If the choice or situation agrees with Love, then it is lawful, acceptable for you to be or do it. If not, then this same Love, if you let it, will empower you to resist it, overcome it, or walk away from it. What may be Love for you, may not be for someone else. Yet, according to the Scriptures, you are supposed to support one another, and each other's individual liberties in Christ, for the edification of you individually, and collectively as the Body of Christ, God's Family. Following Christ's Law of Love does not mean "doing your own thing," but rather "doing the right thing for you individually and collectively towards and with other people." You can have confidence if something agrees with Love, God will honor and support you in it. You can trust Love, and after choosing to follow Love, when you look back, you will see the wisdom of following, and embracing Love as your foundation and guide in life. If Christ lives in your heart, who can say otherwise. Live your life, including your sexuality, with responsibility, in all holiness, and in agreement with Love through Jesus Christ. Now unto Christ that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of God's glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.
